The TEN players whose ability does not match their reputation
Probably one of the few times that Andy Carroll and Papiss Cisse will find their names on the same list of footballers. Luckily for Newcastle’s striker, the reasons are greatly contrasting.
The price-tag of a player helps a lot. As does his attitude on the pitch and his general contribution to picking up all three points. Of course, this isn’t simply about painting one group of players with the same negative brush; there are a number of players whose performances far outweigh their low reputation and the way they are viewed in European and world football.
Robinho, who is on the list, perhaps should have been one of the superstars of Brazilian football, at least for his generation. Like most, he had the rather weighty combined transfer fee, but he also had the talent that was never fulfilled. Instead, he’s one of the bigger names (there it is) that compiles this list of players whose ability or performances do not match their reputation.
