A pretty dreadful week for Manchester City came to an end with the inevitable elimination from the Champions League, just four days after losing to Wigan in the FA Cup.

Barcelona home and away was always an uphill task for City, with a lack of knock out European football throughout their squad but there are plenty of positives for the Etihad club to take.

Whether it be individual performances, a new team spirit or superior management we feel City’s season has already been a hit and that the Blues supporters should be looking forward to more success.

Pellegrini is the best man for the job

When Roberto Mancini was sacked at the end of last season, many City fans felt it was harsh. The man that won them the Premier League and all that…

However City qualified through the group stage with little fuss and certainly haven’t disgraced themselves against the pre-tournament favourites when a red card potentially ruined the tie.

Capital One Cup winners and top of the Premier League if they win games in hand, time for a reality check.

Fernandinho!

A holding midfield player is a must for every single team. A world class holding midfielder player is a luxury that very few can afford. City can.

The Brazilian has been sensational for City and has also allowed Yaya Toure to be adventurous going forward, something that is evident in his scoring record.

Where Mancini tried and failed to find the long term partner for Toure, Pellegrini succeeded.

The strikeforce which could blossom into something special

City undoubtedly had talent with Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli but there is just something different about their current crop.

Edin Dzeko looks a threat from the bench but Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo have struck a relationship that could be something special.

Both have had their slight injuries in the second half of the campaign and Pellegrini has struggled to field them both at the same time but when they do play together, you wouldn’t fancy being a centre half.
