Alex Buttner has dealt Tottenham a transfer blow, by insisting he wants to stay and fight for his place at Manchester United, reports the Metro.

Spurs have been linked with a move for the Dutch full back, who has found himself out of favour at Old Trafford this season.

The 24-year-old has struggled to nail down a first team place since signing from Vitesse Arnham for £5million in the summer of 2012.

Buttner played in Sunday’s FA Cup defeat at home to Swansea, and provided United’s only goal with a fine cross for Javier Hernandez.

And the Dutchman insists he is keen for more opportunities to show what he can do in a United shirt.

“If people talk about other players in my position, I don’t care,” he told manutd.com.

“I just want to play my game and show that I can handle the level. I know there are some clubs that want me but I’m happy here and want to play for United so I focus 100 per cent on here.

“I don’t want to leave. I want to fight for my place. I am still young and I know what I can do. I just have to wait for my chances and take them.”
