Champions League qualification.

The Togo international, who joined the White Hart Lane outfit on a permanent deal from Manchester City over the summer, has struggled to recapture his form of last season.

Just one Premier League goal has seen him fall behind Jermain Defoe in the pecking order, and led to rumours that the club attempted to sign another striker in January.

However, with Defoe injured and their pursuit of other option fruitless, Adebayor is set to play a vital role in the coming weeks.

Despite his less than inspiring season so far, Villas-Boas feels that 28-year-old is still key, and claimed that he pays little attention to statistics from tools such as Prozone:

“I don’t use it because I don’t believe (in it). Normally players are related to tasks and certain tasks might not achieve specific physical data that rewards premium efficiency in terms of a physical performance.” He is quoted by The Mirror.

“But if they do the tasks properly it’s what you want as a football team. You always have to be very, very careful with statistics.

“For me it’s useless, but it depends from coach to coach and it’s different, different approaches.

“The mind and how the player feels is much more important for us, rather than statistical data.”

Spurs take on London rivals West Ham this evening, and AVB acknowledged that it will be a tough game for his side:

“It’s a difficult game at a difficult stadium,” he said, “Full of passion and emotion.

“It’s not going to be easy but we are on a good run. Hopefully we can get three points and be third at the end of the week.”
