Michael Dawson, Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has admitted he was wrong to try and sell Michael Dawson to Queens Park Rangers in the summer and is glad that he stayed.

Tottenham defender Dawson was the subject of a £9million offer from QPR in August but he turned it down, vowing to fight for his place in the starting XI at White Hart Lane. Despite not featuring in the first part of the season, Dawson has worked his way into the team and earned himself a regular slot in the back line. He has started the last 8 games and the Spurs boss is pleased with his progress, according to The Metro.

‘Yes. I think we appreciate the fact we were able to hang on to him,” AVB said.

“We ended up being on the better side by the fact he agreed to stay with us. We were lucky in that sense.’

Although the Spurs boss is likely to hang on to Dawson now, it is likely that he will sell one of his centre-backs this summer and with William Gallas out of contract at the end of this Premier League season it is looking highly likely that he will be the player to leave White Hart Lane.

‘We won’t start another season with five centre-backs,” he added.

“William has been a massive player for us this season. He’s a player we trust a lot. Whatever we decide regarding his future, we’ll have to wait and see, but we are aware of what a presence he’s been for us this season.’
