Internacional would consider Tottenham bid for striker
Andre Villas-Boas has been striving to freshen up his strikeforce this month and the need to sign a new forward has heightened considerably with Jermain Defoe and Clint Dempsey struggling for goals.
Alvaro Negredo and Gary Hooper have been mooted as targets but Damiao is thought to be top of Villas-Boas’ shopping list, while Daniel Levy has tailed him for several years.
Sporting director Luis Cesar Souto de Moura has now opened the door for Spurs after indicating the 23-year-old Brazilian international could leave but warned that any deal would have to be wrapped up swiftly with the 11pm deadline looming and would cost in the region of £16 million.
“Leandro Damiao will only leave if there is a very quick negotiation, but no official offer has been made,” Souto told Brazilian newspaper Correio do Povo.
“The news involving interest for Leandro Damiao, especially from Tottenham, will always happen – they come and go.
“Damiao has a lot of quality, is a goal scorer, was the top scorer in the Olympics and he is a very important player. Internacional understand that it’s extremely difficult, very difficult, for Leandro Damiao to leave now.”
