Dimitar Berbatov claims that joining Monaco on transfer deadline day was an “easy” decision, despite rumoured interest from Tottenham.

The enigmatic Bulgarian left Fulham last week to complete a surprise move to the Mediterranean outfit after growing frustrated at Craven Cottage.

A return to Spurs was thought to be on the cards for the 33-year-old, with Daniel Levy and Tim Sherwood speculated to have been interested in a possible swoop for one of the club’s former favourites.

However, Monaco stepped up their interest after Radamel Falcao was ruled out for the remainder of the season through injury.

Despite claims that Fulham wanted to keep him and Tottenham were also interested, ‘Berba’ says that it was a simple choice in the end:

“I was looking for something new. When Monaco contacted me, I spoke about it with Patrice Evra, one of my very good friends, and he said good things about the team.” He is quoted by The Mirror.

“I know Ricardo Carvalho – I played against him in England – so I don’t feel like a new player.

“In fact, it was easy for me to choose. It is a great team and I know the coach (Claudio Ranieri) who worked in England. It is a new adventure.”

Berbatov is set to make his debut for Monaco in their upcoming clash with PSG – a game that has been dubbed ‘El Cashico’ due to the clubs’ significant backing from wealthy owners.

During the transfer window was quoted as saying he wanted to move back to Tottenham, this sounds like gutter media BS to me.

Where does he even mention Tottenham in the article? Typical media stirring things up!

Let’s be honest, he wouldn’t get into the team very often and would probably be our JD replacement in the Europa league.
