Tottenham Hotspur’s French international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is set to step onto the Stade Gerland pitch once more after Spurs were drawn against Lyon in the last 32 of the Europa League this afternoon in Switzerland.

The draw is one of a host of highly anticipated matches, and in light of a tough start to Premier League life for Lloris, he’ll certainly have something to prove in France.

After arriving at Spurs Lodge in the summer, Lloris found himself behind the American Brad Friedel who held the number one jersey for Spurs’ four opening league encounters. Lloris then made his debut against Lazio in the Europa League opener.

However the goalkeeping tables at White Hart Lane have turned. The Frenchman is now preferred as the first team league starter, while the American Friedel currently fulfills European duties in the Spurs goal.

The tie might prove too tempting for Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas, who could consider reassigning Lloris to European duty in order to play at the stadium where he made his name.

Chelsea’s Petr Cech is another Premier League keeper set to start against his former team, with the Blues drawn against Sparta Prague.

The two other teams representing England are Newcastle and Liverpool. The Magpies have been drawn against FC Metalist Kharkiv at St James’ Park and the Reds will travel to Russia to face Luciano Spalletti’s Zenit St Petersburg.
