Tottenham winger Nacer Chadli has revealed that he turned down a January loan move to Swansea to revive his White Hart Lane career.

The Belgian international arrived in North London over the summer as a part of the club’s £110m first-team overhaul.

Despite being tipped to have a big impact at Spurs, the 25-year-old has struggled since moving from FC Twente.

A series of injuries prevented him from establishing himself, before a temporary move away from the club was mooted last month.

It was suggested that the wide-man was keen to leave to get his hopes of representing his nation at the World Cup back on track, but despite interested from Swansea he stayed put.

Chadli says that a move to South Wales was an option, but his desire to prove himself at Tottenham was enough to convince him to turn down the offer:

“It was a possibility, but it is in the past,” he is quoted by The Metro.

“I had to make a decision and my decision was to stay. Everything was not clear so I wanted to stay at Tottenham and play for my club. I have signed for five years and I’m happy.

“When I came to Spurs, I knew I wasn’t going to play in every game as we have 60 matches in a season.

“I came and got injured, played, got injured again and so I haven’t played as much as I have wanted, but we have a big squad with a lot of good players and we have to compete with each other. I have to work hard in training and show it when I play.”
