Naughton, usually a right-back, has enjoyed a run in the Premier League in light of the long-term injury status of Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

The player has made 15 appearances in all competitions this term and has now earned a chance as the regular left-back at White Hart Lane, citing patience as the key.

“I have had to be patient here at Spurs, it’s taken a few years to get a run in the side,” Naughton told the Spurs official website.

“But the gaffer seems to like the way I play, he’s giving me a chance and it’s up to me now to take it. I’ve played a few games lately and it’s great to get consecutive matches.

“I’ve been pleased with my performances but the main thing for me is that the team got the points over the busy festive period.

“Hopefully we can keep doing well and I can stay in the team for a few more games.”

Naughton, who joined the Lilywhites in 2009 enjoyed loan spells at Middlesbrough, Leicester City and Norwich City before making an impact for Spurs by replacing the injured Cameroon international Assou-Ekotto.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas has certainly placed his trust in the talents of Naughton this season. It is now up to the player to repay the manager’s faith.
