Mauricio Pochettino is keen to make Emmanuel Adebayor the focal point of his Tottenham team as he sets about securing Champions League qualification, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.

The Togolese striker has been a controversial figure at almost every club he’s played for – including Manchester City, Arsenal and Real Madrid – but he is set to stay at Spurs despite spending much of last term on the fringes of the first-team.

Andre Villas-Boas axed Adebayor before he was eventually given the boot and replaced by Tim Sherwood, who welcomed the divisive character back into his starting XI.

The 30-year-old responded with 11 goals, and is now seen as a player who can fire Spurs into the top four by Pochettino.

It is understood that the manager has already contacted his experienced goal-getter to talk about his future, with discussions thought to have been positive.

The Argentine is set to deploy the 4-2-3-1 formation he used at Southampton, and sees Adebayor as the man to fill the role he once used Rickie Lambert in.

The Lilywhites have been linked with signing a new striker during the next transfer window, but with Roberto Soldado and Harry Kane also available they may opt against doing so.
