Tottenham attacker Erik Lamela wants to leave White Hart Lane on loan in a bid to get his career back on track ahead of the 2014 World Cup, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Argentine ace only joined the London side in a £30m deal over the summer – making him Spurs’ most expensive player ever – but has struggled to settle both at the club and in his new city.

Andre Villas-Boas – who was recently sacked – used the 21-year-old sparingly, and it appears that Tim Sherwood is likely to do the same after benching his South American star in recent weeks.

Interest in Lamela’s signature remains high despite his troubles, with Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid at the front of the queue for the signature.

Tottenham are unlikely to be open to selling their man so quickly, and are also against the idea of a temporary deal.

But, Lamela himself is keen on this, with regular action ahead of the World Cup a priority for the versatile attacker.

Since his arrival from Roma it has emerged that the player once dubbed the ‘new Lionel Messi’ was not a signing desired by AVB, who instead wanted Willian – who eventually switched to Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkala.
