Following the departure of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, Tottenham splashed out an incredible £110million on new recruits in the summer, in what was billed as the most pivotal transfer window of the North London club’s history.

Many speculated at the start of the season that the lofty investment, that brought such arrivals as Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Paulinho and Roberto Soldado to White Hart Lane, would propel the club towards the Premier League title race.
