Swansea captain Ashley Williams believes that Ben Davies will be a success at Tottenham if he opts to move to White Hart Lane.

The Welsh left-back has emerged as a top target for Spurs in recent weeks, with reports indicating that the Lilywhites have been in talks with the Swans regarding a deal.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to make his number one on the left side of his backline, with some rumours suggesting that the 21-year-old himself could be tempted by a big move to north London after Swansea’s disappointing 2013/14 campaign.

Although he wants Davies to stay at the Liberty Stadium, Williams believes that he would be a big hit at Spurs:

“He would fit in well there without doubt,” he told the South Wales Evening Post. “If he does not go now and we don’t make it to the top then he will leave at some point because he deserves to be at the top of the league. We will see how it pans out.

“Tottenham are a big club, they are not a small team, and if he wants that then brilliant, and I would back him all the way.

“I have seen him grow, we know he is a mature, sensible lad and he will do what is best for him. I will try to advise him, but I would not tell him to stay because I want him to stay.

“That might not be best for him. I don’t know what he is thinking, I would like to have that conversation with him.”

Williams himself was linked with a move away from Swansea, but he instead opted to sign a new contract last week.
