Tottenham have moved ahead of Liverpool in the race for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk winger Yevhen Konpylanka, after the Ukrainian club’s president confirmed that he is in contact with the Lilywhites.

The Reds came close to sealing a deal for the wide-man in January, but despite agreeing personal terms and conducting a medical with the player the transfer was scuppered as the two teams involved could not settle a fee in time.

Since then the Merseysiders have been linked with a fresh raid for Konoplyanka in the summer, but now Spurs appear to be the frontrunners for his signature.

Tottenham were tentatively alligned with the Ukraine international while Liverpool were negotiating a deal, and have continued to monitor his situation with a view to an offer at the end of the season.

Dnipro’s president, Ihor Kolomoyskyi, says that talks between his side and the White Hart Lane outfit are on-going, and that a deal with them may be better for the player himself:

“I have contact with the Tottenham president. I am talking with him,” he is quoted by Goal.

“He is interested in Konoplyanka. We are in the stage of negotiations and are perhaps close to signing a contract if Yehven agrees.

“I would choose Tottenham – London – not Liverpool. There are matches only once or twice a week, and at other times he will still need somewhere to live. I believe London life is preferable to Liverpool.”
