Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has admitted that Erik Lamela is finding it difficult to adapt to life at White Hart Lane and in England in general.

The Argentine attacker became Spurs’ record signing over the summer when he arrived from Roma in a £30m deal as the London club set about replacing Gareth Bale.

Despite being hailed as a top talent in Serie A and having been compared to Lionel Messi in his homeland, Lamela has barely featured for the Lilywhites, and was even linked with a move back to Italy last month.

But Tottenham held firm to keep him, and although he is finding it difficult to settle, Sherwood believes that the South American will come good:

“It is difficult to adapt to a different country, a different league and a different language as well but when you are suffering up these niggles, and something more than minor at the moment, it is disappointing for the lad,” he is quoted by The Express.

“We signed him for the long-term and we are sure that in the end he will come good for Tottenham and be a crowd favourite here.

“We are all big fans of him when we see him in training, it is difficult to adjust to a different style of play and a different language, I’m sure Erik will pick it up and by the time he is fit he will be fluent!”

Lamela was linked with a loan switch to Inter Milan during January, with his father suggesting that a move back to Serie A was what the player himself wanted.
