Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has promised a response from his side in the second leg of their Europa League tie after their 1-0 loss in Ukraine to Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk.

Spurs struggled against their Eastern European foes in the last 32 clash, eventually coming away behind on aggregate.

Roberto Soldado missed a glorious chance to hand the Londoners a potentially vital away goal before Dnipro made them pay with ten minutes left to play.

Jan Vertonghen brought down Brazilian forward Matheus in the area allowing star man Yevhen Konplyanka – who came close to joining Liverpool last month – to convert from the spot.

The result leaves Spurs chasing a result in the return leg, and Sherwood feels that his side will find the back of the net:

“We could have played better, I didn’t think we were very poor but the disappointment is that we never scored and we had some good opportunities to do that,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.

“We will score at the Lane, guaranteed, but it depends how many we will have to score.”

Sherwood went on to criticize the state of the pitch at the Dnipro-Arena, which he felt had a massive impact on Soldado’s missed opportunity midway through the second half:

“I am not using it as an excuse, not for the chance, as both teams played on it but I am sure that it must have played some part in Robbie missing that one.

“The pitch was a disgrace, it is no excuse as both teams had to play on it but it is possibly the worst pitch I have experienced in a long time.”
