Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that flop forward Roberto Soldado remains a part of his first-team plans at Tottenham.

The Spanish striker endured a woeful debut season at Spurs following his, at the time club record, £26m move from Valencia, with only two of his six goals not coming from the penalty spot.

Since then a move away from White Hart Lane has been mooted, with sides in his homeland and Italy rumoured to have been keen to hand him a chance to get his career back on track.

The 29-year-old has failed to start on both occasions for Tottenham in the league so far this term, which has led to suggestions that Pochettino does not see him as vital to his plans at his new club.

However the Argentine has moved to quash such rumours by insisting that Soldado does have a “future” with the Lilywhites, but that he won’t play against AEK Limassol in the Europa League this week after scoring in the 2-1 win in the first leg:

“He is here but I never talk about any rumours. I don’t talk about the speculation.” He is quoted by talkSPORT.

“He is not in the squad because he has a problem with his neck and back. He is part of my plans for the future.”
