Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood believes winning the Europa League would do more for his reputation as a manager than finishing in the Premier League top four, reports the Telegraph.

Spurs are desperate for a return to the Champions League, and set a top four finish as their main objective for the season.

However Sherwood is confident he has a strong enough squad to enjoy success in the Europa League as well, even though Emmanuel Adebayor, Hugo Lloris, Kyle Walker, Younes Kaboul and Aaron Lennon have been left out of the squad to take on Dnipro of Ukraine tonight.

“What looks best on the CV of a manager is winning trophies,” said Sherwood, ahead of his first European game as Tottenham’s head coach.

“We have seen that down the years, managers who have won this tournament have gone on to bigger and better things.

“The priority of the club is to win both, a place in the Champions League and a trophy at the end of the Europa League. I think we have a squad that is big enough to do that.

“Certainly, though, anyone who tells you that winning trophies isn’t the best thing to put on your CV would by lying to you.”
