Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is ready to sack Andre Villas-Boas if he can find a replacement for the under-fire Portuguese coach, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Spurs slipped to a humiliating 5-0 home defeat to top four rivals Liverpool yesterday, leaving the ex-Chelsea boss on the brink following a below par start to the season.

AVB vowed that he will not quit his post in North London after the match, but it is thought that he may be forced out if Levy can find a new manager.

He is believed to be ready to put a temporary boss in charge ahead of January, with securing Champions League qualification the minimum requirement after the club’s £110m summer spend.

Despite mounting concerns, Villas-Boas says that he is just focusing on doing his job:

“I have to get down to work, that’s the only thing I can focus on.

“The call to make that decision is not mine, because obviously I won’t resign and I’m not a quitter.

“The only thing I can do is work hard with the players to get them back on track.”

Villas-Boas’ side have made a stuttering start to the season, and despite some good results have suffered humbling defeats on several occasions.

The Liverpool loss was their third big loss of the campaign, with the previous two coming in the shape of a 3-0 at the hands of West Ham at White Hart Lane and a 6-0 drubbing away to Manchester City.
