Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy says that there will not be another summer of big spending at White Hart Lane this year.

Spurs splashed almost £110m in 2013 to land big names such as Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado under the guidance of Andre Villas-Boas.

But the majority of their arrivals have failed to match the level of expectation placed upon them in the white shirt, leading many to criticise the Londoners’ use of the cash brought in by the sale of Gareth Bale – whose £86m move to Real Madrid offset much of the investment.

Tottenham have once again been linked with top players heading into the next transfer window, and Levy says that although arrivals are on the cards, large scale spending is not on the agenda for 2014:

“Whilst this season’s performances and results have not lived up to expectation, we believe our squad has potential and it is important that we all now show commitment and teamwork to get the best possible finish to the season.” He is quoted by The Mirror.

“Our focus therefore is to continue to invest in and develop the squad [but] we shall not look to a summer of major upheaval, rather to strengthen in key positions – to play the style of football for which we are famous.”

Tottenham have been linked with Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku, who is valued at around £20m.
