Tottenham have moved closer to signing Anderlecht starlet Ismail Azzaoui, according to the Daily Star.

The 16-year-old is the latest talent to come through the Anderlecht academy, and is understood to have rejected an offer to stay in Belgium.

Tottenham are desperate to bring the talented midfielder to White Hart Lane, and are hoping he will be keen to link up with Belgian internationals Jan Vertonghen, Nacer Chadli, and Moussa Dembele.

If Azzaoui does make the move to England, he will hope to follow in the footsteps of Adnan Januazj, who left Anderlecht as a youngster and has gone on to establish himself in the Manchester United first team.

Jean Kindermans – Anderlecht’s head of youth development – admitted the player was likely to move on, with the decision on his future in his own hands.

“When players become 16 we offer them a development plan and later a financial plan. We aren’t going to change our way of working,” Kindermans told Het Laatste Niuws.

“We’ve heard Spurs are interested in Azzaoui and it’s the player’s right to make a choice.

“We regret he’s going to be leaving us, but you can’t compare this loss to Adnan Januzaj’s move to Manchester United a few years ago.”
