Tim Sherwood is under pressure to give club record signing Erik Lamela more playing time from the Tottenham hierarchy, according to the Telegraph.

Sherwood claimed last week that the £30million wide man would not play again this season, after a debut season blighted by injury problems.

However, Lamela is set to return to full training next week, and White Hart Lane insiders would like to see the Argentine given playing time before the end of the season to boost his confidence.

The 22-year-old has struggled to adapt to the Premier League in his first season, and has suffered from both back and thigh injuries.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is desperate to see the club’s record signing become a success, and believes a run out before the end of the season could give the Argentine a much needed lift.

Sherwood appears resigned to the fact he will lose his job as head coach in the summer, so is likely to stick to his policy of fielding home-grown players rather than big money signings.

One of those such players is forward Harry Kane, who has scored in back-to-back Premier League games under Sherwood.

“The fans like big signings and new players coming in, but there are home-grown players who have been there for years who wear the shirt with pride and want to prove themselves. It’s good competition,” Kane said. “I feel I’m good enough to be here and good enough to play for Spurs in the Premier League. Hopefully, I’ve shown that in the last two games and I’m looking forward to the next matches.”
