Aston Villa striker Christian BentekeAston Villa striker, Christian Benteke, has been linked to a possible transfer to Tottenham Hotspur that is dividing opinion among Spurs fans.

The Belgium international has filed a transfer request, but Aston Villa insist that he will be sold for no less than £25 million.

Some Spurs fans are afraid that Benteke might be one season wonder, following his £7m move from Genk, while others are very keen on taking that chance and signing last season’s fourth top scorer last season in the Premier League.

£20-25m? Too big a gamble. Bently anyone? Bent anyone?
Would rather have Soldado at that price.
Would rather have Torres at that price.

All the Spurs fans saying Benteke’s not good enough for them, he’s only performed in one season, likening him to Carroll etc etc clearly haven’t watched him or Villa much over the season. If they cannot appreciate just how good a player he is then maybe he just shouldn’t go there.

Benteke is not just a target man. He is the most all round striker that I have seen at Villa in a long time. Hold up play, passing, movement, shooting ability, touch, footballing brain…yes we have had players better in each of those categories, but not one who is as good in all of them. Shame his and his agent’s actual IQs are so low.

Benteke is a no risk signing, young, strong and hungry for goals. We have tried to get success on the cheap before (ADE ect) it doesn’t work. The reason we lost out to Arsenal ect was lack of goals. Stop pussieing around and put your hand in our pocket Levy.

Worried about his lack of loyalty and a potential Berbatov situation in a season and a half’s time…assuming he does well for us…

More leaning towards Pablo Osvaldo and Nani (if we can get him) to help shoot us into the CL

How do you work out that Tottenham fans are divided on Benteke?. Apart from the usual comment “not good enough for spurs” about every acquisition and home grown youngster by the regular moaners, who will never be satisfied. Most Fans welcome Benteke as a potential signing.

Lets get this guy as soon as possible, he has really proved himself in the Prem. With the service that our players can give him he will score more goals this year with the Spurs. Lets get him now!

Spurs need intelligent, skillful strikers like Sheringham and Berbatov. Why get a player who cannot pass the ball?

Spurs have already made too many terrible signings under AVB like: Sigurdsson, Dempsey, Dembele and Adebayor. Why make another one?

Spurs had 5 defensive midfielders and then they go and buy another one in Paulhino. What happened to Spurs traditions of passing and creativity? It is going to be like watching a pacey pub team.

Very concerned with thoes that dont rate benteke ob viosly never played football,Should we be so lucky to aquire his services, regardless of his 25m price, we should employ him immediatly and not wait until the close of the window

Villa have handled this superbly. They have out Levied Daniel Levy.

Leaving him out of their squad and slapping a price tag of 25 million on hi is a masterstroke.

The player will stuggle to reach a decent level of fitness if Mr Levy plays his usual game of running the clock down until deadline day.

If Tottenham were to sign an unfit Benteke with no pre=season games nder his belt I will be counter productive to the team. Having missed out on champions league football, and the financial rewards that go with it, by one point, you would hope the deal would be concluded asap.

It is possible that the deal is inevitable and all this posturing by Villa is so their fans can’t accuse them of being bullied by Tottenham. Some Villa fans have delusions of grandeur and cannot accept how far behind clubs like Tottenham they have fallen.

Villa were poor at the back last year and I have a feeling that Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone may figure in any deal that is done eventually. They are both from the Midlands and will both struggle to get a regular game at WHL next year. They would be ideal for Villa.
