Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has given his first indication he may be forced to quit the club in January, after retweeting a story linking him with a move away, according to the Daily Express.

The Mexican forward is said to be a January transfer target for Tottenham, with Andre Villas-Boas desperate to add another top class striker to his ranks.

United manager David Moyes has insisted Hernandez will not be allowed to leave the club, but the Mexican cannot get any assurances of first team football at Old Trafford, with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie the undisputed first choice strike partnership.

Hernandez – who has over 2.5million followers on Twitter – retweeted a Sky Sports story claiming the forward will need to ‘consider his future at Man United if he does not play regularly.’

Hernandez has managed four goals in eight appearances this season, including crucial winners over Liverpool in the Capital One Cup, and Stoke City in the Premier League.

United face former Arsenal forward Carlos Vela tomorrow night as they take on Real Sociedad in the Champions League.

And Vela has added further fuel to the fire, by suggesting his international team mate may well need to seek a move if his situation does not improve.

“Javier is my good friend – and I hope he gets lots of chances this season at Manchester United,” Vela said.

“He is one of the best finishers in England and deserves chances under the new coach.

“If he plays regularly he will score, so I don’t totally understand why a player of his quality has not played more games.

“If he doesn’t play regularly he will need to think about leaving.

“You always want to succeed at the biggest clubs – but if he is not given the chance there will be big teams in England and Europe wanting him.”
