Former Tottenham midfielder David Ginola feels that his old club should stick by Tim Sherwood, amid reports that Frank de Boer is being lined up to replace him in the White Hart Lane dugout.

Should the Dutchman arrive in the summer, it would be Spurs’ second managerial change in a little over six months, with their current chief having been brought in to replace Andre Villas-Boas – who himself was only at the club for a year and a half.

Sherwood penned an 18-month contract during the winter period, but is already thought to be on his way out with chairman Daniel Levy said to be frustrated by his failure to secure a top four finish.

Although de Boer would come to north London with some pedigree – he has won the last four Eredivisie titles with Ajax – Ginola believes that Tottenham should be looking for the stability offered by their reigning boss and his backroom staff:

“A big name doesn’t mean everything, especially for Spurs, they have to look for stability.” He told talkSPORT.

“Tim Sherwood has been at the club for some time. He has worked at the academy, took over from Andre Villas-Boas and had some great results.

“It wasn’t perfect because, if it had been, they would be in the top four.

“Spurs fans are just frustrated about not having a manager for a long period of time who can make the future look brighter.

“They have someone in charge in Tim Sherwood, with his assistants Les Ferdinand and Steffen Freund.

“If you think about the future why don’t you keep those guys for next season? They are competent, committed and they know the club. Why take someone who has to build the entire club again and again?”
