Tottenham are chasing South Korean striker Son Heung-min as they look to ease the goalscoring burden on Jermain Defoe, the Daily Mail understands.

Defoe is the only fit senior striker available at White Hart Lane with Emmanuel Adebayor on African Cup of Nations duty with Togo until next month.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas wants to relieve the pressure on the 30-year-old’s shoulders after he made it just one goal in his last eight outings in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

Internacional hitman Leandro Damiao was thought to be top of Villas-Boas’ shopping list but it’s now emerged that he’s hunting for a cheaper alternative and has his sights set on Hamburg forward Son.

The 20-year-old is highly regarded at the Imtech Arena but is refusing to agree a new deal at the cash-strapped Bundesliga side and is reportedly keen to leave before his contract expires in 2014.

It will cost Spurs £10million to prise Son, who has six goals in 17 games this season, away from Germany and have been encouraged by his desire to move.

Hamburg are reluctant to allow their key players to leave as they are chasing Europa League football this season but are struggling financially and could let one their prized assets leave for the Premier League before the transfer deadline.

looks to as if spurs are skint. but the likes of qpr and newcastle havent had champs league for ages or if ever at all yet they are able to buy players. something isnt right at spurs whe even finding money to sign holtby is so difficult.
