Glenn Hoddle would be open to becoming Tottenham manager for a second time, according to the BBC.

The 56-year-old was in charge of Tottenham between 2001 and 2003, and is amongst those being tipped to replace Andre Villas-Boas, who was sacked on Monday.

It is understood that the former England boss would be interested in a return to White Hart Lane, and is close to chairman Daniel Levy.

Technical co-ordinator and former Tottenham midfielder Tim Sherwood has been placed in temporary charge.

Villas-Boas’s was relieved of his duties following a humiliating 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, a result that left them seventh in the table, and five points off the top four.

Former England boss Fabio Capello, Swansea manager Michael Laudrup and Tottenham’s current technical Franco Baldini have all been linked with replacing the former Chelsea boss at White Hart Lane.

Hoddle has been out of management since 2006 after leaving Wolves, but has turned down offers to return to the game, including the opportunity to take charge of the Ukraine national side.

He has since opened an academy in Spain which focuses on keeping released players in the game.

Hoddle also appears to have the backing of a former Tottenham hero.
