Andre Villas-Boas is determined to bring in a striker in the transfer window, as the North Londoners will only have one recognised forward at the club as Emmanuel Adebayor heads to the African Cup of Nations with Togo.

The Athletic Bilbao striker is out of contract at the end of the season and only this week suggested that he will be unwilling to sign a new contract, as he is seeking a new challenge in order to develop as a player:

“I am going to leave on 30 June, as I want to develop as a player and try something new.”

Llorente’s decision to not sign a new deal hasn’t gone down well with the Bilbao crowd – something that the Spaniard believes is down to the media who have created a division between the player and the fans:

“The media have not helped with the negotiations and it is one of the things that has generated the bad atmosphere around me out on the pitch. This has encouraged me not to renew my contract; this and many other things.

“Most of what has come out in the press is lies and this has turned people against me. This has meant when I run out on to the pitch people whistle at me. There is a sector of the crowd who do not want me but I feel loved by the majority.” Guardian

While Llorente is happy to see out his contract, Bilbao will be desperate to recoup some money rather than lose him on a free in the summer and the £7m offer that Tottenham are reportedly looking to bid may tempt the Spanish club into striking a deal.
