New Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is ready to return to his former club Southampton for the signatures of Jay Rodriguez and Nathaniel Clyne, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Argentine completed his move to White Hart Lane last week to replace Tim Sherwood after an impressive season and a half in charge of the Saints.

Rodriguez and Clyne were two of his favoured players on the South Coast, and now it’s understood that plans are afoot to lure them to north London.

Southampton are desperately battling to keep Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw at the club despite interest from Liverpool and Manchester United respectively, but they now face a scrap to ensure the forward and full-back do not follow Rickie Lambert out of the exit door.

Rodriguez is a long-term Spurs target on the back of his sterling displays in the Hampshire outfit’s attacking set-up, and is still on the club’s radar despite his injury woes.

J-Rod was ruled out of the World Cup with a knee problem, yet there is talk that he will recover in time for the start of the 2013/14 campaign.

Clyne is also a target due to his rampaging displays from right-back.

Southampton are against the idea of major sales, but Pochettino’s influence may be enough to lure the double act away.
