Tottenham will make a genuine push for a top four finish and Champions League qualification, according to veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel.

Spurs are widely seen as outsiders to finish in top quartet of teams this season, with many predicting that it will be a straight shootout between the sides that occupied the slots last term and Manchester United.

Further credence has been added to these claims by the club’s transfer business, with Spurs one of the least active sides in the upper echelons of the Premier League, signing only Ben Davies, Michel Vorm, Eric Dier and American rookie DeAndre Yedlin.

However, Friedel – the oldest player in the top tier at 43 – is adamant that the Lilywhites will be firmly in the mix for the top four next year:

“We have a very good chance of getting into the top four,” he told talkSPORT. “I like what I’ve seen so far [in pre-season] and the players we have are outstanding.

“It’s up to us as players to adapt to the new manager’s style and, if we do that and hit the ground running, you’ll see a very good Tottenham side this season.”
