Europa League.

The stopper moved to White Hart Lane from the French giants last summer after spending four years at the Stade de Gerland.

He maintains that he is still friends with a number of the players he will face in the clubs’ last-32 tie, but will put his personal feelings to one side to help Spurs make it to the next round:

“I received a lot of calls and a lot of messages (after the draw was made) because I have a lot of friends there still, and it is not easy for me because I have a good relationship with all my ex-team-mates.” He is quoted by The Mirrror.

“But that’s football, and on the pitch there are no friends. We play for our team and we give the best we can for the team.”

Having been knocked out of both domestic cups and being some way off of league leaders Manchester United, the Europa League presents Tottenham with a last chance of silverware this season.

Although there is a long way to before the showpiece final in Amsterdam, Lloris is confident that they can challenge for the trophy:

“The competition is very difficult, it’s very long but we have a good team and we can do something in this competition.”

After initially struggling to break into Spurs’ first-team, Lloris has now ousted veteran Brad Friedel to establish himself as number one.
