Emmanuel Adebayor believes that Tim Sherwood should be names as Andre Villas-Boas’ permanent successor at Tottenham.

The Spurs technical director has stepped into the void left after the Portuguese coach’s dismissal last week, and notched his first win in the role during yesterday’s trip to Southampton.

Adebayor – recalled to the first-team by Sherwood – was frozen out of proceedings by AVB, who was rumoured to be far from impressed with his attitude and commitment to the cause.

The Togolese forward found the back of the net – his second in two games – to open the scoring, and played a big role in the eventual 3-2 win.

The 29-year-old says that Sherwood has given him a huge boost in terms of belief and that he feels he should be given the job on a full time basis:

“I am very pleased, not just for the goals but for the team and I am very happy for the new manager and the fans. They have been supporting me.

“He (Sherwood) told me, ‘Emmanuel, I know you for a long time, I need you, get out there and play your football – I will not tell you anything because you have been around the block at Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid, you know how to play.’

“For me, that was big confidence, the new manager telling me that, and I am very happy for him.”

Adebayor’s exclusion from the starting XI was believed to be a contributing factor to Villas-Boas’ sacking, with chairman Daniel Levy frustrated by having his highest earning player not regularly contributing.
