Tottenham youngster Nabil Bentaleb has been asked to represent England instead of his native France, according to the Daily Mail.

Bentaleb made an impressive first home start for Spurs yesterday in their comfortable 2-0 win over London rivals Crystal Palace and boss Tim Sherwood plans on keeping the faith with the 19 year old with injuries to Sandro and Paulinho.

The aggressive midfield man has been nurtured by Spurs from a tender age and Bentaleb has been in England for well over two years, allowing him to play for England.

Bentaleb has a big choice to make though, having been born in France although both of his parents are Algerian.

The Bentaleb story has a familiar ring to it with Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj suffering similar treatment earlier in the season after becoming an instant hit at Old Trafford.

The desperation from the FA is clear, although a number of English-born players impressed yesterday including a wonder strike from Gareth Barry and a hat-trick from Adam Johnson.
