Tottenham to make late dash for Lyon striker
Signing a striker has become a necessity for Villas-Boas in the transfer window’s final furlong after Jermain Defoe was sidelined until March with a pelvic injury, while Emmanuel Adebayor is at the African Cup of Nations.
Villas-Boas has fired blanks in his pursuits of Leandro Damiao, Gary Hooper and Alvaro Negredo but its now emerged that Gomis has jumped to the top of his shopping list after catching the Portuguese tacticians eye.
The France international has enjoyed a prolific campaign, scoring 12 goals in 23 games, firing Lyon towards the top of Ligue 1 where they’re currently battling Paris Saint Germain for the Championship.
It remains to be seen whether Les Gones would be willing to allow the 27-year-old to leave this month but an offer of £8 million could be enough to convince manager Remi Garde to sell given the club’s recent financial difficulties.
And the presence of former Lyon teammate Hugo Lloris at White Hart Lane is a possible draw for Gomis, who has been tracked by Premier League rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle this month.
