Tottenham are ready to rival Liverpool for the signature of Lille striker Divock Origi, according to reports from The Express.

The Reds are understood to be close to agreeing a deal for the 19-year-old forward, which will see him loaned back to France for another season.

But Spurs officials are set to meet with the player and his representatives today in a bid to convince him that north London would be the right choice for him.

Origi has seen his stock rise in recent weeks after starring for Belgium at the World Cup.

Despite his age, the teenager dislodged Romelu Lukaku to lead the line for his nation on multiple occasions, and netted a vital goal in the group stage to ensure qualification for the last 16.

Liverpool remain confident that they will get the youngster on board, but they have lost targets to Spurs in the past.

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey have both been linked with moves to Anfield in transfer windows gone by, yet they ultimately ended up at White Hart Lane.
