Tottenham are ready to turn to Sevilla’s Federico Fazio as their prospective swoop for Mateo Musacchio stalls, according to reports from The Telegraph.

Spurs are thought to be desperately attempting to snap up Villarreal’s Argentinian defender, but third party ownership issues have muddied the waters for them.

A figure of around £17m has been mooted, but with the Spaniards keen to get as much cash as possible while outside influencers are also at work, there has been talk of a fee of around double the amount the Lilywhites are ready to part with.

As a result they are looking at alternatives, with Fazio on the list.

The centre-back – also Argentinian – is understood to have an £8m release clause in his contract, making him a more viable addition in terms of finances.

The 27-year-old recently helped Sevilla to Europa League victory, and is known for his versatility – he can play at full-back or in midfield.

Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be keen on his compatriot, which could open the door for a move before the transfer window closes.

Spurs are ready to sell Michael Dawson and Vlad Chiriches to clear space for Fazio.
