Tottenham may allow summer signing Etienne Capoue to join Napoli this month for a £1.5million loss, just six months after signing for the club, according to the Express.

Reports in Italy suggest that Rafael Benitez is attempting to bring the player to Napoli for a fee of £7.5million, after Spurs paid £9million to sign the French midfielder from Toulouse last August.

Napoli are understood to have made formal contact with Capoue’s agent Mino Raiola, and have followed up their enquiry with a formal offer.

Capoue has found himself on the fringes of the Tottenham first team this season, and was also played out of position at centre back on occasions by former boss Andre Villas-Boas.

He has not found favour under new boss Tim Sherwood, who has preferred youngster Nabil Bentaleb in the holding midfield role.

The 25-year-old has also had a first half of the campaign blighted by injury, and would be keen to make a January move to gain first team football ahead of the summer’s World Cup.

It now remains to be seen as to whether Tottenham are willing to sell Capoue for a loss, or whether chairman Daniel Levy will attempt to push for a better deal.

The news comes on the same day the agent of Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby revealed the player is considering a return to Germany, after finding first team opportunities at White Hart Lane limited this season.
