Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has commented on the potential January move of Lewis Holtby from Schalke 04 to White Hart Lane

Accoring to TalkSport Villas-Boas has stated he doesn’t see the need to rush the player’s move to January, preferring Holtby to join up with the team for a full preseason when they prepare for the 2013-14 Premier League campaign.

The player has signed a pre-contract with Spurs in the transfer window and looks set to join in the summer. Villas-Boas’ comments have silence speculation fuelled by Schalke’s Managing Director Horst Heldt, who earlier this week claimed to be happy to allow the player to leave this January for a nominal fee, as reported by ESPN.

Horst said that “If Tottenham ask for Holtby in the January window, we will talk to them about it.

“Nothing has happened yet, but, from our point of view, we are prepared to speak to them.

“It would have to be done quickly, because we would have to find a replacement for him,” continued Heldt.

However Villas-Boas has moved to deaden speculation of a January move, citing a sense of harmony that he feels his squad currently possesses.

“I don’t think he will come here earlier. When you agree a deal with a player who is a free transfer there is always that possibility,” said Villas-Boas.

“We have an extremely balanced squad and we are not looking to strengthen our midfield at the moment.

“Lewis has tremendous potential. He is extremely educated in his football and we have high expectations for him but this is not the right moment to bring him in.”
