Exactly.
Eerton got a toe-hold in the game, and the momentum from that carried them over the line. The toe-hold came from a mistake by a young player – he is still learning his trade and even the best players make mistakes, so lets not launch a witch-hunt over it. And don’t forget, Everton are a pretty good team, and were playing at home.

If there is any blame it is that so many fans, these days, have totally unrealistic expectations, IMHO.

There was a piece in a decent paper yesterday about the fact we’ve had very similar results when playing in Europe and not. I agree with avb that if we’re going for CL we need to know how to play twice in a week and we’ve actually seen more rotation than people give him credit for. Youngsters learn more playing in a half decent team too so I’m behind him.

It’s obvious that missing King, Kaboom and Benny has hit us hard defensively but that’s all about to change. Stay positive fellow Yiddos!

No, you’re wrong-firstly the old UEFA cup didn’t have a league, it was simply a K/O comp and therefore entailed far fewer games-secondly it was a worthy comp because only the champions played in the European Cup and again only over 2 legs in a KO format-so that in turn made the UEFA Cup more prestigious!

blaming the uefa cup when we went out really early last season playing kids then went and won 4 out 17 games after Christmas you listened to much too redcrapp ,i still remember being at the lane winning it against Wolves in 72 and espicially at the lane winning against Anderlecht in 84
I am still pissed because Redcrapp and Levy were/ar taking us for granted losing 2 world class players and replacing with ?

Essexian76 you are wrong. The Europa League is the old Fairs Cup, UEFA Cup. A prize coveted by those British teams skilful enough to have won it throughout the 1970′s and 80′s. Maybe the current format needs slimming down to fewer games, but if Spurs win it then no one is going to complain!

Surely it comes as no surprise that teams like Spurs, Newcastle and Liverpool have all had indifferent performances after playing in the most worthless and pointless competition in football? The rewards for playing in the damned thing aren’t even worth playing a complete side of reserves, as you’d lose money unless qualifying for the final itself, which is another 9 games after qualifying the KO’s..we’ve played a strong side, and if those players were rested instead of playing twice a week every week, then I suggest playing a flat out 90 mins in the PL wouldn’t be such a problem? If it were the CL, then fair enough-you’d risk a top 4 finish for that-but for the EL?, it’s a waste of time and resources
