Raheem Sterling picked up where he left off last season, when he fired Liverpool ahead with a tidy finish past Southampton’s debutant between the sticks, Fraser Forster.

Despite bagging the first Premier League goal of the new season for Brendan Rodgers’ side, it was Sterling’s club and country team-mate Jordan Henderson who took all the plaudits for his wonderful assist that set-up the lightening quick forward.

After seeing the former Sunderland man cut open the Saints defence with a pass from inside his own half, Twitter couldn’t praise Hendo enough:
