Manchester United made easy work of visitors West Ham United at Old Trafford to make it four successive victories in all competitions.

David Moyes’ men started brightly and were ahead after just 26 minutes when Danny Welbeck slotted past Hammers goalkeeper Adrian from a tight angle.

And 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj doubled United’s lead ten minutes later when he went racing in to the box, expertly wrong footed James Collins and placed his effort in to the corner of the net for his first ever goal at Old Trafford.

The Hammers were disappointing in the opening 45 minutes but came out for the second period looking more like the side that beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Capital One Cup just four days earlier.

But a host of half-chances were not enough to get themselves back in the game, and United trebled their lead following another passage of good play.

Substitute Ashley Young saw his first time effort curl past Adrian and in to the top corner from 20-yards with just under 20 minutes of normal time remaining to put any kind of Hammers come-back to bed.

But West Ham refused to give up and were rewarded when substitute Carlton Cole raced clear of the United defence and calmly finished past David de Gea for the Hammers’ first goal at Old Trafford since 2008 and to give the travelling West Ham faithful something to cheer about.

But it proved to be too little too late for West Ham as United saw the game out for all three points to climb above Tottenham in to 7th in the Premier League, five points a drift of fourth placed Chelsea.
