Theo Walcott wants Arsenal to start believing they can catch up with rivals Tottenham and bag a top-four finish, the Mirror report.

Despite Spurs holding a seven point advantage Walcott insists the feeling in the Gunners camp isn’t one of concern – especially after they overhauled a 13 point deficit to finish above their North London adversaries last season.

“Last year, we were so many points behind no-one ever thought we would make it,” the 23-year-old said.

“We’ve got a game in hand but we need to clock up these points fast. The gap doesn’t worry us. We can’t worry about them (Spurs).

“We hope they do drop points, but we’ve got to concentrate on ourselves, win games – and we’ve got a big game on Wednesday when we have to pick ourselves up.”

Arsene Wenger’s men are yet to record a Premier League win in 2013 and Walcott, who signed a new three and a half year deal to stay at the Emirates Stadium last week, indicated the importance of winning their game in hand.

He added: “We are ready, it’s our game in hand, we have to get three points and, no disrespect to West Ham, we should win that game.

“This team is getting better every year. We don’t want to be standing still. We need to be right up there at the end of the season, Champions League football and competing as well”

Arsenal host West Ham at the Emirates on Wednesday night in an important seven days for Arsene Wenger’s men, with the Gunners facing a trip to play Brighton on the South Coast, before entertaining an in-form Liverpool side next week.

I’m an Arsenal fan and I think we are pants and getting worse! We should have been thumped against Chelski and show no passion, commitment or skill. I think we are going nowhere until we sack Arsene Wenger and get someone in who can move us up to the next level. We are light years behind Spuds who are looking increasingly strong and playing beautiful free flowing football. I fancy them to be pushing on for the title in the very near future whilst we are on the slippery slope down. However in true fickle fashion if we win our next two games I will change my opinion and get fully behind the boys and the manager!!
