West Brom manager Steve Clarke has revealed that he is confident of keeping Romelu Lukaku at the club next season.

The Belgian starlet has spent the current campaign at The Hawthorns on loan form Chelsea, and has been impressive.

A return of 12 goals has seen speculation heighten that the Blues may recall him ahead of next season, especially with Fernando Torres continuing to misfire.

But, Clarke is positive about his chances of keeping Lukaku in the Midlands, but admits that discussions have not taken place yet:

“Chelsea are his parent club, he is their player and they will decide what they want to do first and foremost.” He is quoted by The Mirror.

“Then after that, hopefully we will get a chance to put ourselves in the hat.

“If Chelsea want to leave him out for another season somewhere I think we would have a strong chance of getting him back here, but it is a discussion for the summer.”

Lukaku has confessed that he is enjoying his time with the Baggies, and may be tempted to stay on with first-team opportunities likely to be limited at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are believed to be keen to strengthen their attacking options this summer, which would, likely, push the 19-year-old down the pecking order.

Lukaku was brought to England in 2011 from Anderlecht in an £18m deal.

His combination physicality and technique have seen him likened to former Chelsea star Didier Drogba.
