Millwall chairman John Berylson says that the Lions want to sign Chris Wood, their loanee from West Brom, in January so that he can stay permanently.

The player, who moved to Millwall on loan in September, has, so far, got five goals, which came from eight appearances.

He recently has told Millwall fan website NewsAtDen he “definitely” wishes to stay at Millwall, and the Lions chairman is keen to make that happen.

John Berylson said to Lions Live: “We’ll try (to sign him),”

“Chris is someone we’ve known about for years. West Brom will have to make a decision as to whether they want to sell him or not and set a price. Hopefully we can meet in the middle. It took us 20 or 30 days to come to grips with Andy Keogh and Wolves last year. It (the fee) ended up pretty much where we started. They used us as a springboard to try and get more. We’ll see what happens.”

Berylson has said how Wood is fitting in well at Millwall, and how he feels that the striker can help the Lions to be stronger in attack.

John Berylson said: “Chris fit in great. I hope he likes being here. Everybody knows I’ve always wanted us to be strong up front. He’d be great to have and it’s always something I’m thinking about.”

Wood signed a contract lasting three and a half years for West Brom in 2009. His current spell with Millwall is his fifth loan move since he joined the Baggies.
