West Brom ace not for sale amid Liverpool interest
Long has scored seven goals in sixteen appearances to far this season as the Baggies have been in impressive form sitting in 5th place in the Premier League and level on points with 3rd place Chelsea.
The link has arisen with Liverpool looking to bolster their forward line in January and it has been suggested that Long was amongst their targets.
The West Brom manager was quick to dismiss these rumours though, “Liverpool need a striker, Shane is playing well, so a lazy journalist puts it together and makes a story out of it,” Clarke told the Birmingham Mail.
“Shane is not for sale. And I’d be very surprised if Brendan Rodgers wanted to take Shane anyway.
“People are merely looking at connections and making stories out of it.”
The performances of Shane Long have reportedly been noticed by a clutch of Premier League sides looking to lure the Irishman away.
A bid from Rodgers to take the player to Anfield is thought to be highly doubtful, with Long struggling to make an impressive at Reading when he was the manager there.
Long eventually moved from Reading in 2010 for a fee for £6million to West Bromwich Albion and if they were to let go of their forward it is expected they would command at least double that fee.
Next up in the Premier League for Long and West Brom is a trip to the Emirates to take on Arsenal.
