West Brom are on the verge of securing a move for World Cup winner Cristian Zaccardo, according to talkSPORT.

The Midlands club confirmed former Real Betis manager Pepe Mel as the successor to Steve Clarke yesterday, and Zaccardo is set to follow him to the Hawthorns.

The Baggies have been busy searching for January signings while hunting for a new manager, and AC Milan defender Zaccardo has emerged as a top target.

The 32-year-old was a part of the Italy squad that won the 2006 World Cup in Germany, and is looking for a move to get his career back on track after falling down the pecking order at the San Siro.

Zaccardo only completed his move to Milan in January 2013, joining from Parma.

However, he is set to be on the move for a second successive January transfer window, after managing just four league starts this season.

Italian website TuttoMercatoWeb has claimed the defender is in advanced talks with West Brom over a switch to the Hawthorns, and expects a deal to be completed in the near future.
