West Ham United for a one-week training session during the MLS offseason.

It’s currently unclear whether this is purely a one-week training session or a formal trial, however with the injury to Mohamed Diame his arrival has the potential to extend longer than a single week.

Nonetheless the presence of the player at Chadwell Heath means that Sam Allardyce will have a chance to watch the tenacious MLS star firsthand.

Previously Alonso had joined up with Everton for a short offseason period in similar fashion two years ago, which was swiftly followed by his return to the US.

But with Diame on the injury list at Upton Park, Big Sam could be forced to bring in a new recruit at central midfield to help the Irons consolidate their Premier League status for next season.

The player commented in 2011 that his time training with Everton proved his suitability to English football, stating rather confidently, “I was pretty good.”

“I know I am being looked at by several teams in the Premiership,” he continued.

Alonso has never hidden his desire to play in the English top flight, commenting that “if something happens then I welcome it.”

The player has been bestowed with American citizenship after defecting in 2007 from Cuba and currently has a contract with Seattle that comes to a close in December 2014.
