Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has admitted he came close to joining West Ham two years before completing his switch to Stamford Bridge, reports the Daily Mirror.

Drogba is set to come up against his former club when Chelsea take on Turkish giants Galatasary.

The Ivorian striker went on to become a Blues legend during his time at Stamford Bridge, but admits his career could have been very different had ex-Hammers boss managed to sign him when he was a young forward at Guingamp.

“That was two years before moving to Chelsea, I could have gone there,” admitted Drogba.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger also claimed he could have signed the powerful forward for as little as £200k before he went to Marseille, but decided not to pursue the deal as he already had Thierry Henry at his disposal.

“I wasn’t really aware of it at the time. I think I spoke about it with my agents at the time,” he added.

“That’s life, you know, there’s a few things, a few decisions that you make in life take you in a different direction.”
