West Ham manager Sam Allardyce is hopeful that his side can take advantage of Tottenham’s current woes and grab another win against their local rivals in tonight’s Capital One Cup clash.

The Hammers secured a shock 3-0 win at White Hart Lane in October, a result that contributed to Andre Villas-Boas’ sacking earlier this week.

Allardyce will once again take his side to North London this evening, where he will meet stand-in Spurs coach Tim Sherwood.

Although the pressure is also on ‘Big Sam’ – whose side sit just a point clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone – he is hopeful that they can snatch another surprise win:

“We took full advantage of a very good position we put ourselves in when we last played there and we took our chances,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.

“We haven’t managed that since but now we have to go out and give it all we’ve got because it’s a one-off tie.”

Allardyce went on to state that he is shocked by AVB’s departure, but that he understands why Daniel Levy, Tottenham’s chairman, made the decision:

“Spurs have an excellent squad of players. Obviously they had a poor result on Saturday and ultimately the board have removed AVB. That’s a surprise to me but we know they still have an excellent team.

“The money is so big in the Premier League that the fear of losing that revenue causes owners to make those decisions.”

West Ham will once again be short on attacking options due to Andy Carroll’s injury woes, while James Tomkins is also expected to miss the clash.
